Travel, St. Anastasia island , Bulgaria

A PROMISE IS A CLOUD; FULFILLMENT IS RAIN

On our second day in the city, we explored the gardens that stretched for over 8 km (4.97 miles) along the Black Sea coast. These beautiful gardens are an important attraction and a national treasure of landscape gardening. From there we booked a 45-minute boat cruise to Saint Anastasia Island. The only inhabited island off the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, it was named after the St. Anastasia Convent formerly situated there. The convent had existed since the Middle Ages and was reconstructed during the 18th and 19th centuries. It was abandoned in 1923, when the island was transformed into a prison. Today, in addition to the convent with its church, there is a lighthouse on the island and a small quay, as well as a museum, a restaurant, a conference hall and two guesthouses with a total of five rooms available to tourists.

When we boarded the boat on our return to the mainland, the weather was getting a bit rough and windy, the sky had turned to gray and we felt the cold breeze going through our light clothes. We knew we had no time to lose in catching up with our next destination, Varna.
