Palolem

YOU WOULD NEVER WANT TO LEAVE PALOLEM

Our trip had come to an end… Well not yet! Palolem was our last destination before we started our journey back home. On this day we decided to take a taxi since it was around 70 km (43.4 miles) South of Goa which will surely take around 3 hours (one way) if we were to come on our scooters. Plus we felt that taking a taxi was safer. It was our first trip South Goa, so we got to see a lot of new amazing scenery.

The taxi dropped us at the beach entrance. We walked through an alley crammed with souvenir shops until we found ourselves at the center of one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Goa. It is a natural bay surrounded by patronizing peninsulas on either side. This results in a tranquil sea with a gently sloping bed of sand that stretched for more than 2 Km (1.2 miles) long and around 100 m (0.062 miles) width. At first glance, the beach was packed with beach shacks, restaurants and beach mats, the music was loud and everybody was happy and enjoying their time. We settled on the left side for a while, and we quickly ordered our cold am beer. We sat at a cafe that offered free sun-beds and one free drink with the purchase of every two.  It wasn’t long before we were approached by sellers of all kind. For the fun of it, Ronnie and I accepted to have a Henna tattoo on our hands, I chose the “Om” sign while he chose another design but probably similar in meaning.

After having a few beers, we decided to explore the right side of the beach. We walked all the way to the end until we reach to a place where a river merged from the dense jungle into a shallow pond, then opened to the sea. That calm and serene area was famous for Yoga retreat centers. Although there wasn’t much happening there, there was enough for anyone to be wishing to spend the rest of his life on this paradise beach.

People from all over the world come to visit this piece of paradise. For a while people forget their differences in that place and it becomes like a small community of happy and loveable people. At noon we had an amazing omelet from a beach shack and we shared our seat with a cow. It is amazing how people and animals live in harmony, and this is something we noticed all over Goa.

After spending a magical day, the time has come to leave this piece of paradise with one hope to return one day.

Wiki Travel advises: Palolem is a very safe place – the main risk you face is not wanting to leave. And this is totally true!
