1- Phoenix zoo: within 15 minutes from the city center you can reach Phoenix zoo by car. From plants to animals, Arizona is making a significant effort on raising awareness on ecological matters. The Phoenix Zoo opened in 1962 and is the largest privately owned, non-profit zoo in the United States. It was founded by Robert Maytag and located in Phoenix, Arizona. The zoo has 4 main walking trails stretched over 4 km (2.5 miles) and home for 1400 animals on display. The Phoenix zoo is famous for its sanctuary that provides rescue and rehabilitation for endangered or unwanted animals. The reintroduction of the Arabian oryx was one of its biggest achievements of the 90’s. You can easily spend a day walking the trails and watching animals, birds, insects and fish. PS: keep hydrated during your walk as it can be too hot and dry during the day.
