TOP TEN SITES TO VISIT WHEN YOU ARE IN PHOENIX, ARIZONA FOR THE FIRST TIME

7- Sedona: Sedona is almost half way between Phoenix (almost a 2-hour drive) and the Grand Canyon. The reason we mentioned it after the Grand Canyon is because it is best to visit it on your way back to Phoenix unless you’re planning an extended stay in Sedona. If you’re there to admire the fiery red stones and capture some photos it is worth the stop whereas you can still pamper yourself with some ice cream or a fresh cocktail in town. Sedona is well known for its red sandstone formations that glow brilliant orange and red during the sunrise and sunset. You can visit Sedona for hiking, mountain biking, spiritual pursuits, lunch, dinner or just to enjoy the scenery and the river it offers. One of the most famous rock in Sedona is the Cathedral Rock and is found in almost all images that you find online. We enjoyed driving towards Sedona, if you are driving be careful while going downhill in the twisty road until you reach the river at the bottom that’s where you will notice a change in the scenery. A complete transformation in the environment; from a desert and sandy formation into a green burgeoning nature. Bit by bit pieces of the red and orange sandstone formations will manifest in front of you until they become your major attraction. By the way, according to Wikipedia and other sources, Sedona was named after the wife of city’s first postmasters, Sedona Arabella Miller Schenbly whose mother claimed to have made up this name since it “sounded pretty”.

Here are the top ten sites that we visited during our stay in Phoenix which we enjoyed the most and we recommend.

  1. Phoenix zoo
  2. Desert Botanical Garden
  3. Tortilla Flat
  4. Hiking on the Superstition Mountains
  5. Goldfield Ghost Town
  6. The Grand Canyon
  7. Sedona
  8. Lake Powell
  9. The Horse Shoe Bend
  10. Hoover Dam
